Things I’ve loved in February | #2

Despite only being the second month of the year, February has already been the worst month so far. I can honestly say I’m glad to see the back of February. Poor health has once again plagued my body and taken over most of the month. Good riddance February. This months ‘Things I’ve Loved’ post has been slightly harder to write as I haven’t done anything exciting other than sleeping, trying to get better and build my strength back up. However, it’s important to find the positives amongst all the negatives. So here goes, these are the things I’ve loved in February.

Day Out

A few days before I became unwell, I enjoyed a fun trip to the cinema with my nephew. We went to see Early Man at the Cineworld in Renfrew Street in Glasgow. This was my nephews first time at this cinema so he was quite excited about it, especially going in the glass lift (see photo below). He loved being able to look outside while going up and down the 6 floors. His excitement made me smile. Oh not to forget the crazy dancing during the end movie credits.

Restaurant

After the cinema, we headed to Bella Italia on Sauchiehall Street for dinner. We all love Bella Italia so it was a no-brainer to end our day out in Glasgow. I’ve mentioned the tasty Verde burger before, but this time I decided to mix it up a little and have something different. The Lenticchie (Spaghetti with a rich lentil and mushroom ragu) sounded delicious and thankfully, it didn’t disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo because I was so hungry.

Blog Post

January was a really good month for blog posts, but February not so much. As much as I wanted to write and work on blog posts, for most of February I was just unable to. Being unwell left me feeling really weak and fatigued so I physically and mentally couldn’t write anything during those weeks. However, at the beginning of the month, the lovely Becky wrote an amazing guest post all about her experience being on Channel 4’s The Undateables. Becky shared her thoughts on having a disability, dating and realising she isn’t undateable thanks to being on the show. I absolutely loved having Becky share her story on simply Emma and it is my favourite blog post for the month of February. If you missed it, you can read it here.

Making Plans

With bands announcing new tours this month, it’s been exciting to add these new gigs to the calendar. So far we have at least one gig each month, but hopefully, we can add a little more to it. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our trip to see Alien Ant Farm in Newcastle this month because I was unwell. Already 2018 is filling up with live events, road trips and other travel plans. It’s going to be a busy year, but I’m really looking forward to seeing how it all works out.

Sunshine

The past few weeks have been a lot brighter with lovely sunshine streaming through the windows. I’ve especially loved seeing this in our livingroom and how it lights up all our house plants. Simple yet uplifting things like this always make me smile and realise that spring/summer are just around the corner. I need some heat in my bones.

Documentary

I love watching documentaries. This month my eyes were opened by The True Cost, which you can watch on Netflix. This documentary is all about the clothing industry. It shows how our clothes are made and who makes them. It shows the real impact our ridiculous spending habits has on the people who make our clothes. The garment workers in these developing countries are on such low-wages and working in awful environments all in the name of consumerism. Before watching this documentary I didn’t realise how bad the situation was, but it’s made me more aware of my spending and where I buy from. It’s made me realise that I don’t need the latest fashion items. I just don’t. Minimalism is the way to go. We don’t need ‘stuff’ to make us happy. I’m happy I watched this and now making positive changes.

So, there you go, a run through of the things I’ve loved in January. It’s a little short this month, but I’m hoping things will be back to normal next month. Fingers crossed! What are some of the things you’ve loved this month?

  1. My son did his university on Glasgow. I was able to visit once, and instantly fell in love with the city. That was 10 (?) years ago, I’m sure the place has changed, as has my appreciation for accessibility. We did ok back then getting around with my wheelchair. I’d love to go back some time.

  2. Sorry to read that you’ve been ill most of February. I’ve yet to see Early man but it’s something I’d love to watch. The post written by one of the people on Undateables made for a great read. #BlogCrush
