Drimsynie Holiday Village, the Accessible Lochside Escape with Argyll Holidays

Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park is easily among the most beautiful parts of Scotland. Nestled within this national park is the Drimsynie Holiday Village by Argyll Holidays, located on the banks of Loch Goil. Having recently spent a few days there, I wanted to share my experience of staying in the wheelchair accessible room at Drimsynie Hotel and why I think it could be the perfect getaway or Scottish staycation.

Spoiler alert: I have already booked another stay with my family for later this year.

What is Drimsynie Holiday Village?

Drimsynie Holiday Village in Lochgoilhead, Argyll and Bute is the perfect family holiday resort offering a range of activities, stunning scenery, entertainment, and amenities for both fun and relaxation.

The holiday village is home to caravans, lodges, and a beautiful hotel. On-site amenities include an activity centre, a spa and leisure centre, a restaurant, a takeaway, a bar, and a shop.

As an award-winning holiday park within the Cove Communities UK family, it’s easy to see why Drimsynie Holiday Village has become one of the best places to stay in Argyll.

One of my favourite things about Drimsynie Holiday Village is its breathtaking location by the shores of Loch Goil. The views are nothing short of spectacular, with rolling hills, lush greenery, and shimmering waters creating a stunning backdrop for our stay. It was so lovely to be surrounded by nature, and even the drive to Drimsynie was incredible.

During our visit in May, we enjoyed beautiful weather with plenty of sunshine and blue skies. We were also attending a family wedding in the area, so Drimsynie Hotel was the perfect place to stay. Here is a photo of my partner and me in the room before heading to the wedding. You can see more of the family wedding photos on my Instagram.

Drimsynie Holiday Village – Wheelchair Accessible Hotel Room

We stayed in a wheelchair accessible room in the hotel. As soon as we entered, our eyes were drawn towards the Loch Goil and the Arrochar Alps views through the floor-to-ceiling windows. We felt surrounded by nature and the room was filled with beautiful natural light.

The room was super spacious with plenty of space to move around. The room is called the ‘Classic Double Accessible Room,’ so the bed is made up as a double as standard, but there is the option to have them separated if required.

I received a call from the hotel the day before we arrived asking how we’d like the bed made up. We had it set up as a double, and there was enough space on one side for transferring to and from my wheelchair. We just moved the small table and chair away from the bed to give us room.

While there wasn’t enough clearance under the bed for a mobile hoist, the bed was on small castor wheels. I reckon that blocks or elephant feet could be used to increase the height if needed. I recommend discussing this with the hotel, as they will be able to assist.

The headboard included wall-mounted lamps, light switches, USB ports, and power outlets for overnight charging of wheelchairs, devices, and medical equipment.

While relaxing in bed, we could enjoy the beautiful view outside the window.

Opposite the bed, there was a large wall-mounted TV, a desk, and tea/coffee-making facilities. I sat at the desk to do my skincare and makeup. Although I brought my own travel mirror, having a wall mirror above the desk would be helpful, especially if you’re like me and need a surface to lean on while getting ready and want to see yourself clearly.

The room also had an open-sided wardrobe with a large mirror on the front, as well as an area with a small mirror with a shelf and a hairdryer. Plus an ironing board and a portable air conditioner. The accessible hotel room is pet-friendly too, and your dog will be treated to a free doggie goody bag on arrival!

Wheelchair Accessible Bathroom at Drimsynie Holiday Village Hotel

The bathroom in our wheelchair accessible room was a good size. There was space for me to manoeuvre in my wheelchair without any issues.

It featured a roll-in shower with a shower seat that had leg supports, making it feel safe and sturdy. The shower seat can fold up, giving extra space when not in use or if you travel with your own shower chair. The handheld showerhead and water controls were positioned within reach of the shower seat.  A shelf in the shower would be helpful for toiletries while showering.

The toilet was located in the corner of the bathroom. On one side, there was a fixed grab bar, while on the other side, there was one pull-down grab bar and another fixed grab bar.

The small handwash basin was a little too small and too low for me to be able to use comfortably, but I did manage. If you’ve read my previous accessible hotel reviews, you’ll know that I often find hotel bathroom sinks difficult to use due to their size.

There was an emergency red cord in the bathroom, but it had been tied up and we were unable to untie it. These red cords need to hang freely to the floor, so I provided this feedback to the hotel team.

Amenities and Activities at Drimsynie

Drimsynie Holiday Village is packed with activities to keep everyone entertained. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to use the facilities or try the activities during our stay.

However, we’ve already booked a return visit with my family, including my two nephews, as I know they are going to love the swimming pool, play area, and the various indoor and outdoor activities.

Some of the activities include fencing, archery, aeroball, sand art, slime making, pottery, swimming, canoeing, and much more. There is even a VIP cinema.

For adults, there are plenty of options for relaxation. My mum and sister will enjoy the spa facilities. While we watch the kids, they can unwind in the sauna or indulge in a peaceful massage or beauty treatment.

After our next visit, I will share our experience of the activities and the hotel’s facilities, including any accessibility details, in a future blog post.

Dining at Drimsynie Holiday Village

Drimsynie Hotel has a large restaurant called The View, which is aptly named for its beautiful views. The restaurant’s raised position overlooks Loch Goil, Lochgoilhead village, and the surrounding mountains.

There is also DC’s Takeaway, which serves pizza, burgers, and other items that can be enjoyed in your room. If you’re in the mood for a drink and some live music, head over to the Rob Roy Suite. I’m looking forward to sampling more of the restaurant and takeaway food during our next visit.
