What I’ve Loved In June

Wow! June has come and gone in what feels like a blink of an eye. It’s crazy to think that we are halfway through the year already. It would be nice if the second half slowed down, even just a tiny bit. We had quite a few plans for June, but poor health disrupted most of that. Despite how quick this month has been and the disrupted plans, there have been good times and I’m excited about what’s in store for July. Until then, here is what I’ve loved in June.

Dog Sitting & Evening Walks

We were on dog-sitting duty earlier this month when Toby the dog came to stay with us for the week. Toby is an almost fifteen-year-old border collie rescue dog. He is Allan and his mum’s dog and since his mum went on holiday we had the pleasure of keeping him company. It was good to get out and enjoy walks each day even if it was a tad chilly some days. We struck it lucky on a few days with beautiful sunshine though. We still miss our handsome cat Milo every day, but it was also good for Allan to get to spend more quality time with Toby especially as he is getting older.

Years and Years

Years and Years is a BBC TV show that I had seen advertised and thought it looked really good. Then I heard a lot of people talking about it and how much they loved it. However, it wasn’t until my friend Jason’s tweet when it really caught my attention “Absolutely buzzing to watch the finale of #YearsAndYears. Best program I’ve watched in #YearsAndYears”. We started watching it last week and because there are only six episodes we watched two each night. It was amazing. We both thoroughly enjoyed it.

It’s a “drama series following a tumultuous 15 years in Britain through the eyes of one family.” It focuses on the Lyons family from Manchester from 2019 to 2034. It shows us what our future could be like with technology advancements as well as the political state of the world. If you haven’t seen it yet, I’d recommend you give it a watch.

Northumberland

A few weeks ago we hit the road again for another mini road trip. This time it was to the lovely Northumberland to review two pubs with rooms. Our first stop, The Commissioners Quay Inn in Blyth. The accessible room was really nice and met my needs, but my full review will be coming soon. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was delicious. After dinner, we enjoyed a stroll along Blyth Harbour before returning to our room. Unfortunately, the following morning didn’t go to plan as I wasn’t feeling well and disappointingly we had to come home.

Despite this, we still had a great time on Friday and we will return to Northumberland to finish what we set out to do. Sometimes disability can throw unexpected things in your way and make you change your plans, but that’s okay.

Friends

I’ve always been a big Friends fan, but lately, I seem to be watching it every single day. Sometimes all day. It never gets old, even when I’ve seen the episode a million times. Who is your favourite friend? Mine has got to be Ross. He is the best and cracks me up every time. It’s his facial expressions, the tone of his voice and how animated he is. It’s everything.

Music

I love discovering new music and there has been a few this month. One of those discoveries is Abby Anderson. She is an American country singer and the song that I first heard was called ‘Make Him Wait’. Abby says she wrote the song in 45 minutes and it’s basically a message of not rushing dating and relationships. I have also been listening to Dermot Kennedy non-stop so there is nothing new there. He was amazing at Glastonbury so if you haven’t seen his performance yet, then I highly recommend you check it out (you can watch it here).

Blog Post

June must have been quite a productive month as I managed to get six blog posts published. It’s a good feeling to have regular content going out. Most of the time it doesn’t work out like that. One of my favourite blog posts in June was the Q&A I did with Allan. It was something I had been wanting to do for such a long time, but for one reason or the other, it just didn’t happen. I’m so pleased we finally go round to doing the Q&A and thank you to Allan for being open and honest in answering the questions on what it’s like caring for me and being in an interabled relationship.

I am beyond amazed by the incredible response and feedback we got on doing that post. Thank you to everyone who commented and sent us lovely messages as well as sharing your own personal stories. It was so nice to hear from you and we appreciate it so much.

  1. Love the summary of the month and your positive outlook on the world, even when things don’t quite go according to plan. But that’s what makes life interesting.
