My Top 5 Best Travel Moments of 2017

What a year 2017 has been. There were highs and lows, but I’m happy it’s been one of our best for travel. We’ve visited both old and new places, gained new experiences and created so many memories. Isn’t that what it’s all about? With the end of the year only a day away, I thought it would be fun to share my top 5 best travel moments of 2017 with you.

My Top 5 Best Travel Moments of 2017

1. UK Road Trip Being A Kings Of Leon Groupie

February was an exciting month for us as we set off on a mini UK road trip. The three stops were Newcastle, Liverpool and Glasgow.

We’ve been on lots of road trips, but this one was extra special because we got to see Kings of Leon perform in each of these cities. Each night was amazing and their shows never got boring, only better. Is that even possible?

They are without a doubt, my favourite band.

2. Sampling The Viennese Charm And Culture

Vienna had been on my travel bucket list for quite a while, so I was beyond thrilled to finally experience the charming city in April. We got the chance to stay in two hotels. One is the most charming hotel in Vienna and the other being the trendiest and eco-friendly hotel in Vienna.

Two very different but amazing hotels. The whole trip was fantastic and memorable and I would love to do it all over again if I could. Stunning architecture, art nouveau, gothic vibes are just some of the things I loved about Vienna. It really is a beautiful and accessible city.

3. Escaping To The Forest With Forest Holidays

Playing tourist in my own country is one of my favourite things to do. Scotland is unbelievably beautiful and I’m proud to call it home. So when we kicked off the month of May with a stay at Forest Holidays in Strathyre it was one of the best staycations we’ve had.

It was great to have my Mum, sister and nephew staying with us over the long weekend in the accessible cabin. The weather was probably the best we’ve had in Scotland all year so we took advantage and spent lots of time outdoors and down at the loch.

A highlight from this cabin was the hot tub hoist. It made getting in and out of the hot tub so much easier and shows steps are being taken in the right direction towards greater accessibility for all.

4. Rocking and Rolling in London

2017 was a great year for many reasons and going to London to see Kings of Leon at BST Hyde Park was definitely one of them. Having already seen them three times this year it was the cherry on top getting to see them headline this brilliant accessible festival.

The accessibility throughout the festival was top notch including a great viewing platform, accessible toilets, changing places toilet, accessible pathways, charging points for power chairs, hearing loops, quiet space and much more.

What else I loved about our trip to London was that we didn’t rush around frantically trying to see and do as many things as possible. We slowed the pace down, did less touristy stuff and simply enjoyed our time together. It was also lovely to be in London for Allan’s birthday.

5. Taking To The Sea In Sunny Barcelona

Barcelona was another place I was desperate to visit this year. It’s one of my favourite places I’ve ever visited and now one of the best travel moments of 2017. I loved everything about it. So much so that I’m hoping to return in 2018 (and we did!).

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to visit Barcelona with Turisme de Barcelona. It is truly the highlight of 2017 for me. We stayed at MICs Sant Jordi which is a lovely and fully accessible apartment in a beautiful neighbourhood.

One of my favourite memories of the trip was being able to float in the ocean in a beach wheelchair on Nova Icària Beach. Amazing! This was something I’ve never been able to do before. It was a big deal and something I would do all over again in a heartbeat.

Barcelona I can’t wait to come back again.
